Jaguar XJ6 Fuelstar Installation
Jaguar XJ6 4.2L - 1979 Model
This Jaguar was restored top to bottom by an A Grade Mechanic – it was run for a while (approx 5,000km on rebuilt motor) and then garaged for a number of years while being occasionally taken out to stretch its legs.
The Car hated running on unleaded fuel, regularly fouling plugs and frankly running like a “dog”. Various additives were tried in the Fuel including Moreys, to compensate – at fairly large and constant expense per fill. This had mixed results with only partial restoration of smooth running and then reversion back to previous lumpy and rough running. Despite numerous checks of the state of tune etc, the car continued to misbehave. Fuel consumption was horrendous – with half a tank disappearing on short runs from East Auckland to the North Shore and back despite gentle use of throttle. The odour of unburnt gases was terrible whenever the car was idling at lights or at rest. He was recommended that he install a Fuelstar to correct the running problems etc.
The Fuelstar was installed in November of 2010. After approx the first 100kms travelled the car began to run smoothly, idle consistently without "stumbling" and the Plugs no longer fouled or needed to be replaced. The owner was very sceptical at the start and had become fairly vexed at his pride and joys poor running etc. He was astounded as were his staff that the car was finally behaving itself without incident after huge number of replaced plugs and uncomfortable driving behaviour from the big cat. The car has continued to run well on short runs and performed perfectly on a trip to Taupo and back to Auckland over 3 days.
Fuel consumption on short runs began to be minimal – with $20.00 worth of fuel covering short to medium trips into Auckland City and back to East Auckland and short running around the immediate area. On the trip to Taupo – the car only used just slightly over half a tank of gas from Auckland to Taupo. For an old technology Carburetted 6 Cylinder it was astounding. Particularly compared to the poor gas mileage demonstrated before. Also no more stinky odours from the back end any more either. The Jag became a sweet and well-behaved big cat, instead of a temperamental dog.
